HONG KONG 1896.

Report of the Comptroller and Auditor General on the

Account of Receipts and Expenditure of the Treasurer of

HONG KONG for the year 1896.

1.

The Revenue for the year 1896 amounted to

$2,250,180, or, inclusive of Land Sales and Water Account,

to $2,609,879. The Expenditure during the same period

was $2,474,910..

There was therefore a surplus of Revenue

of $134,969.

The total Revenue for the year amounting, as

stated above, to $2,609,879, was $321,513 more than the

Estimate of $2,288,366, and larger also than the Revenue of

1895 by $123,650.

The estimated receipts of Revenue were exceeded

under all Heads with the exception of "Interest" and

"Miscellaneous Receipts", which showed a deficiency compared

with the Estimates of $5,000 and $178 respectively.
